How much are you worth as a copywriting professional?

Everyone wants to know what their future potential earnings are likely to be before they go ‘all in’ and invest x number of years of whatever it is they fancy doing.

After all, this is OUR life, and our time (our ONLY time) that we’re about to invest in…

…like Eminem said (and a hundred thousand internet marketers’) “You only get one shot.”

Of course, the truth is, you get as many shots as you’re willing to take.

But that’s good ol’ FOMO for you (if you want to start making real money, you’re going to need all the help you can get).

Two thousand years ago the Roman charioteer and gladiator Gaius Appuleius Diocles earned 35 million sesterces during his life as a sports star (according to the Roman inscription catalog number: CIL 6.10048).

That’s the equivalent of $15,000,000,000 in today’s money ($15billion just in case that wasn’t clear – although it has to be said, his ‘owners’ probably took the bulk of it).

In 2023 French footballer Kylian Mbappé was offered a “record-breaking” $1billion to play football in Saudi Arabia.

That’s 15 times less than the top gladiator.

What’s fascinating is that the paparazzi would have us believe that football fees are out of control today – when they’re not even close.

When gurus talk about 6, 7, and 8 figure copywriters, they’re not even close either. Not in terms of possibilities.

If you’re a copywriter for one of the top agencies, you’re almost certainly responsible for the creation of 8+ figure sums.

The problem is (just like our gladiator friend), it’s not you the copywriter who gets the money, it’s the shareholders of the company that hired you.

But hey, who cares about details when we’re trying to sell some course or another on how to make 6+ figures!

Just show the “proof” and you’re laughing. Ha!

This is another tool in the rhetorician’s toolbox of tricks to fool people into parting with their money.

It’s called ‘analogy’, but it’s just one of a total of eight similar tools in this particular area of ‘The Rhetoric’ (and only a small part of the whole), so if you’re going to fool the public when it comes to telling a good story, well, you’d best be familiar with them all.

Likewise, if you don’t want to be fooled again yourself, you’d better start learning ALL the elements.
